The Heart Project//Mental Health Monday

I can’t believe it has been over a month since I’ve done a mental health Monday! Mental health with always be a large part of my life and a very important issue to me.

If you want to hear more about my story I have shared bits and pieces in past mental health Monday posts. For a small recap I have been battling anxiety for the past 13 years. It has definitely been the hardest part of my entire life and much of my life has been shaped because of my anxiety. Through the help of many therapists, my faith in God, and my wonderful family I am at a point where I can function on a day to day basis. However I am nowhere near I need to be. My next goal is getting a job which will be a huge step.

By Lauren Hayley is one of my favorite bloggers because her story is very similar to mine. I saw her post about The Heart Project on twitter last night and I immediately knew what my next blog post was going to be about.

I love anything that brings awareness to mental health. I don’t think people realize HOW MANY other people are in the same boat as them. Mental health is often kept quiet which can make people feel as if they are the only one who has ever had this problem. Knowing there are others out there that know EXACTLY how you feel is amazing! I was checking out some of tweets with the hashtag #theheartproject I was not only amazed with how many pictures I saw but how many hearts people had on them. As much as I hate having anxiety I am very grateful that is all that I have. Many people struggle with multiple disorders which is really hard. The more awareness we can spread the better.

I want to challenge everyone out there to post a picture of yourself with your hearts! If you don’t suffer from a mental illness that’s ok, just draw a dark blue heart for support!
